Saints provides services with the sole purpose of
increasing shareholder value. Therefore, we often try to include
equity as a meaningful portion of our compensation. We try to structure
every engagement with very small cash retainers such that the management
and investors believe that our interests are alligned. We are so
convinced that our efforts on behalf of our client will yield higher
equity value, we are prepared to win when management and shareholders
win, and lose when management and shareholders lose. In other words,
we think of providing services like a venture investor - not of
providing services like an investment bank or consulting firm.
We believe that unbiased advice is hard to come by. Every third
party has some vested interest that isn't always the same as that
of the shareholders. An investment bank that gets paid only if an
M&A transaction occurs is hard pressed to recommend to their
clients that they shouldn't buy a company or sell to a certain acquirer.
In fact, often a partnership or investment may make much more sense
for your company but if an investment bank is motivated solely to
close an M&A transaction it is hard to get advice to the contrary.
Likewise with a consulting firm, if they can sell you a longer,
larger consulting assignment, they probably will. However, whether
that larger, longer consulting assignment adds to shareholder value
is often a difficult to assess.
We also firmly believe that a set of best practices is crucial in
delivering a service. We believe that our process is based on years
of experience, of knowing what to do and what not to do. Helping
with part of the process just isn't enough - we believe that providing
recommendations needs to be followed by actually implementing them
and finally making sure that the expectations established initially
are achieved.
Finally we believe that industry knowledge, experience and a team-oriented
approach are keys to success. Saints has an in-depth knowledge and
understanding of the events, trends and key players in the emerging
growth technology industry. We have experience as advisors and as
management in facing the strategic challenges companies come across
as they grow and mature. We utilize a team-oriented approach with
our clients and each other, and we share our respective industry
knowledge and experience in a way that is highly collaborative.
Saints Advisors aspires to achieve these goals with our employees,
our investors and our clients. We seek to inspire entrepreneurial,
optimistic, determined people - at our clients and among our employees
- with unlimited opportunities for growth. In this way we hope to
form a long-term bond with them. The fact that many executives from
successful high technology companies have become investors in our
venture capital fund is a testament to this.
